What to look at when choosing a tarot reader

It's hard to know in advance how accurate someone will be, but some things you can check before booking.

  1. Are the price and length clearly stated? The deposit, the balance and whether you can reschedule are best known before you pay.
  2. Can you ask follow-up questions? When you don't follow a reading, you should be able to stop and ask. A reading that can explain its reasons is more useful than a bare conclusion.
  3. Does it make you more afraid? If you're told disaster is coming, that you must pay for a remedy, or that you have to decide right now, it's fine to stop.
  4. Are the boundaries clear? For medical, legal and investment matters, you should be advised to see the relevant professionals.
  5. Look at what others have said. Specific descriptions like "explained clearly" or "gave advice I could act on" show what a reading is like better than a single "so accurate".

I check myself against these points too. Pentacles Studio's prices, rescheduling rules and how I read are all on the site, and client feedback links back to the original posts on Instagram.

How to think about "accurate"

Some people say a reading was accurate because it described what was going on; others because, after talking, they knew what to do next. I care more about the second. The cards can help you put into words where you're stuck. For more, read Is tarot accurate? How I see reading the cards.

On the day we meet

We talk about what's been happening first, then draw cards. Ask whenever you don't follow, and say so if you see it differently. Before we finish we go over the main points together. The studio doesn't record audio or video, but you're welcome to record it yourself or photograph the cards. The full guide to booking for the first time is here.
