Tarot questions

Tarot: where can you start asking?

Some people want to ask about a relationship, some want to know whether to stay in a job.
Others have just got their first deck, turned over a few cards, and the more they look, the less they understand.

Just read on from the question you have now.

Love and relationships

You want to ask about them, and about what's going on with you.

"Will they come back?" Sometimes, once you've asked, you find the harder thing to say is: if they really did come back, could we talk about what happened before?

You can ask about love. What you know, what you hope, and what the other person hasn't said need looking at separately. What the cards bring to mind can't be treated as a promise someone else has already made.

Separate "them" from "me" to get more useful answers.

Does the Six of Cups mean you'll get back together?
First look at who you miss, which days, and what happened to that relationship afterwards.

Not sure how to ask? Start with what has been happening
Keep your original question, then spell out the details you want to know.

You're already worn out. Should you keep going?
On investment, reluctance to let go, and how to look back at where you stand.

Work and choices

You want to leave. And you're afraid it'll be worse if you do.

Being unhappy at work might be about the work itself, the people, or never having any time left for yourself. It's all called "wanting to quit", but what actually needs dealing with is different.

Separating these out before looking at the cards often gives you more to talk about than rushing to draw one card for "go or stay".

A hypothetical situation, three cards, and things you can actually check afterwards.

When is a good time for a reading?
Do you have a specific question, or want a direction for the coming year?

You feel better after a reading. Then what?
You don't need to change your life that day, but you can leave with one thing you can do.

Learning tarot yourself

You can look up the meanings, but still don't know what to say.

Memorising "Two of Swords = hesitation" won't automatically tell you why the person in front of you is hesitating. Reading images, looking at the question, comparing neighbouring cards: these take practice.

Beginners can start by reading one picture. If you already know the basics, go straight to the lesson list and find where you're stuck.

One more question

A few more questions people have before a reading.

Will what the tarot says definitely happen?

Here, a reading is treated as an interpretation of your question at the time, for you to consider. Reality is shaped by people's choices and by what happens later, and a reader can also get things wrong. Note down what was said, look back at it later, and don't only remember the hits.

More on accuracy

Can I keep asking the same question?

If nothing has changed and you just didn't like the last answer, pause. Write down the line that worries you most, and see whether what it needs is new information, a conversation, or a bit more time.

When to ask about the same thing again

Is drawing a reversed card bad?

You can't judge the outcome by upright or reversed alone. It depends on what you asked, where the card sits, and the cards beside it. A reversal can mean blocked, delayed or happening inwardly, and choosing which reading to use needs a reason.

Ways to read reversals, with practice

Can I just draw one card first?

You can start with the daily card and note what you notice in the picture. If you want to learn from it, say what you observe before looking up the meaning, and don't force everything that happens today to fit.
